There was a better ending here, but Perry opts for one that encourages repeated viewing and social media chatter. That mission was accomplished. Making a better movie? That's not found in Straw. Time to head back to the haystack.

Mixing a little 'Dog Day Afternoon' with John Q' and a splash of 'Set It Off,' Tyler Perry's latest for Netflix - STRAW is literally a one woman showcase for the amazingly gifted Taraji P. Henson.

Perry puts us in Janiyah's world, and Henson makes us live it.

I would of never guessed the ending of Tyler Perry's Straw. Too bad it's one of the dumbest finales to one of his movie's yet.

Straw's flaws torpedo its intent.

This thriller sustains tension and may even draw tears with its quick build-up to a hostage situation and heartfelt message about empathy.

Tyler Perry makes is difficult to sympathize with the lead. Some of the worst acting from the supporting cast, and the script can be relatable to some, but is over the top, and unrealistic!

"Straw" has all the feels it wants and little of the art it needs.

Henson - so deeply committed to her character's emotional cratering - still makes us care.

Straw is one of the worst written movies of the year. This talented cast is left with nothing to work with in this generic, contrived, trauma filled mess of a movie. At this point the writer Tyler Perry is hurting the director Tyler Perry.

Straw isn't the worst Perry film, but it suffers from the same problems that plague all of his projects. The narrative is chock full of heavy-handed metaphors, fussy plotting and strained drama. The best parts of the film can be attributed to Henson.

Taraji P. Henson elevates Tyler Perry's melodramatic but tense thriller.

Tyler Perry's Straw features the usual barrage of poorly written dialogue and nonsensical plot points, along with a wholly unnecessary twist, but Taraji P. Henson and Sherri Shepherd deliver powerhouse performances worthy of critical acclaim.

'Straw' is not exactly subtle, but the emotions are so raw and the performances are so earnest that you've really got to have a heart of stone not to care for these people.
