James Vanderbilt's screenplay flashes some cheeky references (including one about a Vanderbilt) but there are no big surprises to be had here.

Fountain of Youth satisfies the most basic family adventure movie quest of having something new to watch, but little else.

A never-deadening slop of used ideas with a true a**hole as our hero, Portman at her most wasted, a villain turn never more obvious and a conclusion in its familiarity to another Memorial Day adventure release will have you thinking I have 'chosen poorly'

Looking back on it afterward, "Fountain Of Youth" is as unbelievable as most other action adventure films. Yet by offering up engaging characters and healthy doses of humor along with the chases and stunts, it makes it easy to go along for the ride.

While Fountain of Youth cribs from some of the very best treasure-tracking adventures Hollywood has ever had to offer, it struggles somewhat at every opportunity to demonstrate much imagination of its own.

This is mediocrity personified.

Flaws aside, Fountain of Youth is a film you don't regret watching. There's something about a good, old-fashioned treasure hunt that keeps you engaged even if you know how it's all going to end.

There's not a single memorable moment in the interminable two hours of footage. The action scenes are boring. I doubt even a big-screen showing would have given them a pulse but, for home viewing, there's an almost irresistible urge to fast-forward...

It's a movie designed as functional entertainment, and for lack of a better word it functions.

Ritchie remains lacking in his ability to direct actors. John Krasinski, Eiza González and Natalie Portman all star in "Fountain of Youth," and they've never been so unappealing.

It is the "Citizen Kane" of second-screen entertainment. Every frame rewards inattention.

If you were a 13-year-old in 1990, dropped off at the mall multiplex with Milk Duds money, Fountain of Youth would be a big win.

It's all as predictable as you'd expect, with the screenplay by James Vanderbilt failing to provide the wit necessary to make the film stand out in any way.

Some mysteries can't ever be cracked, but "Fountain of Youth" sure tries to keep the journey through this one as flashy - and, hell, even sometimes quite fun - as possible.

The characterizations are flat, the would-be quippy dialogue rarely elicits laughs, and the action sequences seldom rise above the level of satisfactory.

An adventurer enlists his disapproving sister in this Guy Ritchie movie with a hint of Indiana Jones.

As a spirited time-filler, "Fountain of Youth" gets the job done, but anyone looking for a deeper exploration of the search for eternal life may find this little more insightful than a stopped clock.

I would seriously consider cutting off one of my own fingers if it meant I didn't have to spend two hours alone in a room with John Krasinski's protagonist from Guy Ritchie's 'Fountain of Youth.'

Merely a cheeky pantomime rather than an actual adventure in which one might get swept up.
